Do resolutions really start until January 2nd? They tend to in my world...to some extent. It's just so hard until you get back to the reality of a normal schedule to commit. Which, really, is just another excuse, I suppose.
I realize that I can make resolutions at any time and that the marking of the "new" year is rather arbitrary, but it seems so tidy, making a fresh start. Especially after a season of excess, when it's still cold and blustery and one can hibernate and take stock.
I have the usual resolutions that many of us have summed up succinctly, to start following My Fitness Pal again. To eat less and move more. To take my vitamins and drink more water.
But those are pretty much The Usuals for me, whether it's January 1st or June 27th.
More concretely, this year I want to read more. I have set a goal of 20 books on Goodreads, which is not huge by any stretch of the imagination, but seems doable. I want to experience success this year! I also want to sell a piece of writing. Just one. Which means, I want to work some things I have been working on into something I am proud of and want to send off. If I do it once, chances are I can do it more than once. I have sold (both for money and publication) a few things, but nothing recent and nothing much.
Mostly, I hope this year is about input and output. I want to catch up on the books and movies I have been wanting to read and see, I want to go to more plays, and live music. And I want to create more. Write, draw, craft, paint. I think I need to be more purpousful in my output. Maybe join a writing group or painting class.
It's just where my mind is.
I'm also thinking making a little money would be good, so I am exploring possabilities. I am not sure what that will entail, but I think it would be great to pay something off this year. We paid of one of my student loans in 2012 and that felt great. We have rolled that payment over into another loan already, but it sure will feel good to get out from under the weight of some of these things with an eye to the future.
Speaking of the future...er...here are some pictures from Christmas (recent) past.
This Angelina Ballerina playhouse was a hit. It feels so good seeing Georgia use her imagination. Those skills are still emerging for her.
Another hit was this Encyclopedia of Musical Instruments.
Alex got a dobro guitar! I love the sound of it. He let's me play it and I hope to work on those chops a little bit more this year. The guitar and the ukulele.
Lots of games this year. Games make Rainer really happy. I think he played with every single one--it helped that Grammie was visiting and was..GAME...to play!
We got this big bear. (And soon after I saw that top picture G got her bangs cut.) (Note: Georgia loves being smooshed under things. That's sensory seeking behavior for ya!)
Rainer enjoys just about everything if it smacks of toydom! He solved this water puzzle (even got a pattern) on the first try! (Though I don't know if he has been so lucky since.)
I love this little M & D castle. Rainer seems to, too.
Doesn't G look like a Charlie Brown character in this shot??
Oh! And meet Butterscoth the horse. a.k.a. Hopscotch or Horse Christmas (as dubbed by Rainer). He moves and chomps a carrot and wags his tail when you brush him. You can also "ride" him. G really loves this pony and I can't wait for her to get involved with some hippotherapy!
The kids got flags, too. The rainbow one as seen above which will go in G's colorful room. And this peace one which is in Rainer's room.
I guess I have probably pictured you all out. So I will end it here. But hey! Before I leave, an important proposal:
Make yourself proud this year!
