Georgia's peepers.
Other than the absolute HISSY FIT she threw (think: screaming loud enough for the waiting room to hear and squinting the self-same eyes that need to be examined), G's eye exam was good. Her eyesight is only minimally worse (she's mildly near-sighted) and the doctor saw a slight astigmatism, but basically we go back for a follow-up in a year. Someday glasses, but not today.
Other than that, we're being spoiled by my SIL who is getting up with and taking care of G and cooking dinner. Somehow, I am still exhausted, but mostly dreading next week when it's back to flying solo taking care of the kids all day.
Also. I feel like I am sitting out Christmas this year. I am mixed about this. My family will not be getting much from us this year. We're broke. Kids are expensive. And even if we'e not technically REALLY broke, it still feels like a bad idea to spend a ton of money this year. Ya' know? It's just like swapping debt it feels like. But maybe I am being a scrooge. I will probably feel better when I figure out what we're doing about a tree.
Bah.

My pal Memarie Lane (http://memarielane.com) puts out some great tips. One of them was how to make vanilla yourself - very simple- vodka and vanilla beans but it needs to soak for awhile! We're in the same space-minimal!

Oh geez- I keep forgetting things! I forgot to tell you. When it is time there is a person who specifically designs glasses for kids with DS (smaller noses and all) that are extremely cute.

I think that is you were ever going to "sit out" Christmas, that this would be the year to do it. The whole country is right there with you in terms of economic caution and the kids are too young to care or remember. Take some cute pictures of them in their jammies in front of the tree when you get it and call it good!
As for the relatives . . . if you do exchange gifts, I thought that Princess Nebraska had FABULOUS under $25 gift ideas.

Eh. Everyone I know is getting banana bread and cookies and if they're really lucky, a bottle of wine. Grandparents usually get pictures of kids.
Other than that, the kids (thankfully they're not old enough to notice or care) are getting a light up video game thing that I swore my children would never own (a VSmile Baby doohickey) that I picked up on Craigslist. One set of grandparents is being asked for a family pass to the aquarium, the other for a game to go with the video thing.
It's not even the money, although that does matter- but the sheer amount of waste and consumerism that's bugging me lately. So, I quit.
Besides, the kids have every toy ever produced in their room- at least it seems that way when I'm trying to walk in there, and we don't need any more stuff.
We put up lights outside this week, and it feels Christmas-y around here, so I'm not feeling too Scroogeish about it. Yet.

I think minimal is in!
Glad Georgia's eye exam ... well, it may not have went well, but glad to hear it's done & over for now.
Enjoy having your SIL around to help!
