Georgia Update

6 month post-op visit to cardio yesterday. Georgia got a good report. The new doctor was nice and happens to know the peds cardio team at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore so will make a referral for us. (Relief!) We are to go back in 6 months. Not because there are any concerns, primarily so the doctors down south will get Georgia on their file (in case of any problems later) and so she can be seen in the summer months (when she is less likely to have a cold).

Some notes:
--She WILL still need antibiotics for any operative/dental procedures.
--She does still have a murmur (from the residual VSD). Not sure if this will close on its own. It may, it may not. It shouldn't cause any major problems. We already knew about this.
--She also has a slower heart rate, but no concerns about it now since it is still in normal range. If it were slower thyroid function might be called into question, but since she's had two thyroid tests, I am not worried now.
--She's in the 75-95th percentile for H & W on the DS chart and 50th on the typical!! (That's up quite a bit and I am very thankful for that!)
--She has a left superior vena cava which we didn't know and apparently won't cause he any problems, but COULD surprise anyone trying to give her a catheter in the neck. It's essentially an anomaly of the  pulmonary veins. They go in a completely different course than they typically should. Which is strange. And cool.
--She will forever have what is known as a cluster block on any heart echos she may have. Which is not a big deal apparently, but essentially (from what I understand) when they do surgery on the heart, when they cut through the muscle it inevitably damages a part of the heart. A more-or-less non-essential part, but it shows up when you look at it.

Other than that. I'm feeling good about things.

Now for hearing and vision next week.....

Sounds like she's as peachy as she looks...in the heart department anyway. Hope this pesky cold will get lost very soon!

YAY!! And I'm so impressed she's doing so well on BOTH growth charts. Ru isn't on the typical one. Although now that she's moved on to cereal, she's growing again.

Enjoy your weekend!

So glad the appointment went well! But don't you just love it when the doctor tells you some vital fact about your child's condition that some other doctor should have told you before, and you wonder why it's just now you're finding this information out? And don't mind about having a sooner-than-later next appointment. Archie sees the card yearly, even though everyone else his age has graduated to much less frequent visits. But, really, so glad it was a good appointment overall!

I'm so glad her appt went well. And her growth - fabulous! What is she weighing these days?

I'm sorry you had to hear those comments at the dr's office. ((((Hugs))) It's hard when people really don't understand. Even in knowing that - it still hurts. You addressed it beautifully in your last post too! (I don't always know how to respond to comments either - and typically do in the comments section, but wonder if people even see them. Personal email - if you have it - is a good idea.)

I enjoy peeking at your little cutie!

Blessings,
Leslie
