Everyone said we would find such great joy in the little things. That our daughter would do everything typical kids do, just at a slower pace. That when she did those things we would be more excited more encouraging more amazed more more more! I only have Georgia, so I don't know how to be any other way, but I do know that many of my friends with baby's much younger than Georgia are accomplishing things at such an astounding rate I think I'd find it hard to keep up. Of course I want Georgia to do things, but I have to admit, we've been somewhat spoiled in that we haven't had to babyproof too much yet. She's just not that mobile.
I don't know if it's the PT, the OT, the ST, or just that she's ready, but lately she has been progressing in leaps and bounds. One thing that has been a particular struggle for us is getting her to bear weight on her arms. Her arms are shorter than most baby's and as a result she relies a lot on her trunk and back for support. She has a strong trunk and back for sure!
This is her usual mode of play (note the arched back):
She overcompensates. (Which to me seems pretty ingenious.) But even I, a lay-person, can see that too much overcompensation will lead to weaknesses in other areas.
That is why when she does things, even for a brief moment, I can't help but gush and post pictures.
So forgive me my trespasses.
But Georgy is starting to bear weight on her arms! (And pivot too!)
She started way over there in her Boppy. I guess this means babyproofing is in the near future.
What am I going to do with all our stuff? No, really. What do I do with it? Pack it all up until she's grown?

Whee! That last picture, she has a really determined look. Go Georgia!
I'm a babyproofing slacker too. Gates are good, with William we spent most of our time in one or two gated-off rooms.

She looks very determined! I never really ever babyproofed, but probably should have for my younger two. My youngest (3) is still in a crib because I can't trust her not to get into stuff. I just know she'd try and scale her dresser if she could.

When Eli was just a very little baby, we got a new entertainment center. Kind of a low one, and our TV sat on it, and it had sliding glass doors on the bottom behind which we put our DVD player and our stereo.
Dumb. By the time he was 7 months old, we had taken the glass doors off, moved the stereo to another room, and put the DVD player on top of the TV. He just wouldn't leave it all alone, and I was tired of saying "no" all day long. We had some serious negative vibes going on all the time. Now, the TV is still on it, though it's a battle everyday to keep him from turning it on and off, and all the shelves for electronics are full of kids' books and toys.
So I guess the answer to your question about packing your stuff away is a resounding yes. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Woo hoo! I'm so excited she's crawling. We're all about the lazy man's baby proofing over here...baby gates...we have a giant "cage" in our living room and Eli just chills in there most of the time.
Or in the pack and play.

What a strong little bear she is! I love her expression in the second photo down. She looks so excited to be up!

We've been working on the bearing weight on the arms too. Georgia looks like she's got it going on! Congrats!

We basically used gates to gate off the kitchen, and everything else is up high (or in the kitchen!!!)
Go Georgia!! Congrats!

Our "stuff" just slowly rose higher and higher. It went from surface to surface, until they were tall enough to reach the tops of the cabinets. At that point, they're old enough to think twice before eating the dirt straight out of the plant.
And when you don't want to have to think about it, baby gates are heaven.

Oh the wonder of being mobile! Yes, babyproof. Wait until Miss G is standing tippytoe and pulling out the dangerous cutlery...It took Gabe just over a year to go from cruising to walking. I remember that time being agonizingly slow, but now, I can't remember him being still. LOL!
Way to go Miss G!

OMG. She is so cute.
I miss having a baby.
Stop showing such cute baby pictures or I might have go out and get myself one...again.
As for Georgia, You go girl! Show your Mom what baby proofing is all about! Just grab a few things. She'll get it...quickly too.
